Hello! My name is Dustin Long and I am a teacher candidate in the CSU San Marcos single subject program in area of mathematics. Last Fall, I had the pleasure of teaching pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 at JCCS Innovations Academy of Empowerment in Vista. Now I currently teach Algebra 2 at San Pasqual High School in Escondido. I have thoroughly enjoyed my opportunities to teach and look forward to earning my credential this summer to become an amazing educator in the near future.
As for my background, I was born and raised in San Jacinto, CA and graduated from SJHS in 2005. I had the privilege of having the same excellent math teacher throughout my high school career and as a result, I developed a deep affinity for high level mathematics. At the same time, I thrived all four years on the wrestling team and ended my senior year as a team captain and a CIF state championships qualifier. Following high school, I remained close to both of those passions in my life. I followed my love of mathematics to San Diego State University and earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Meanwhile, I remained close to the wrestling program at my old school and have helped with coaching ever since. I have come to love mentoring, watching growth, and having a direct impact on the youth I encounter. It is for these reasons and more that inspired me to change my career trajectory to teaching and pushed me to enroll in CSUSM's single subject program in early 2014. With the prospect of receiving my credential, my goal is to continue coaching wrestlers on the mat while simultaneously instilling the same enthusiasm that I have for math in my students in the clasroom.
When I'm not teaching, I have several hobbies and interests. To start, I am a huge sports fanatic. I love the competition, skill, and excitement that comes with sports. I'm extremely devoted to watching games, following news, reading sports columns, and playing pick-games of all sorts. I also like to stay active with other activities including surfing and snow boarding. Aside from this, another major facet of my life is music. I listen to many things and particularly reserve a large amount of respect for musicians. I myself enjoy playing piano and guitar in my free time and love working to better myself at them. Finally, I have a deep passion for travelling and experiencing new things. Because of this, I hope to one day travel the world.
